Physiotherapy at home in Da Nang

Da Nang's older streets are full of tall narrow houses with a staircase that turns twice and was never designed for anyone recovering from a hip fracture. That staircase, not a set of repetitions, is usually the actual goal of rehabilitation here, so sessions happen on it and around it instead of in a gym across town.

The work splits in two. Local families book courses after a stroke, a fracture or joint surgery, and progress is judged on whether the kitchen and the bathroom have become reachable again. Visitors book single sessions after a motorbike fall, when a knee or a shoulder needs supervised loading and getting to a clinic is the hard part. From April to August sessions are set for early morning, because the top floor of a concrete house in the afternoon is a poor place to work hard. New numbness, a limb that will not take any weight, or a calf that is swollen, hot and tender stops the session and goes to a doctor the same day; chest pain or breathlessness on exertion means 115.

Areas we go to most

An Thuong · My Khe · Son Tra · Hai Chau · Ngu Hanh Son · Cam Le

The turning staircase in an older Hai Chau townhouse is usually the real target, and progress gets measured on it rather than on a mat.

Sessions are booked for early morning from April to August, because the upper floor of a concrete house in the afternoon is no place for hard work.

Motorbike falls bring visitors in with knees and shoulders that need supervised loading while they are still on holiday here.

Courses after a stroke are judged by whether the kitchen and the bathroom have become usable again, not by how many exercises were completed.

If this is an emergency — trouble breathing, chest pain, heavy bleeding, loss of consciousness or signs of a stroke — please call 115 or go to the nearest hospital first. Please do not wait for a home visit.

What is included

An assessment comes first: what the person can do today, and what the next fortnight can realistically change

The exercises use your own stairs, doorways and bathroom, because those are the obstacles that stay behind after a session ends

Whoever is at home learns the daily set, and how to shift the patient without hurting either of them

Progress is measured the same way at every visit, and a plateau is reported plainly instead of padded out

Where a surgeon has set a protocol, it is followed, and load or range is not changed without asking the team that operated

Red flags go in writing: a newly drooping face, speech that has become slurred, or weakness down one side means 115 and a hospital, not another session

Questions we are asked

Questions we are asked

Is home physiotherapy as useful as going to a clinic?

It is different rather than lesser. A clinic has more equipment; your house has the staircase, the bathroom step and the doorway you actually have to manage, and those are what recovery gets measured against. Where a machine is genuinely needed we will say so and send you to one.

I hurt my knee in a fall and fly home in ten days. Is a short course worth starting?

It can be, if the aim is honest: controlling the swelling, restoring enough movement to sit through a flight, and leaving with a written programme and the imaging your own physiotherapist will ask for. It is not enough time to rehabilitate a torn ligament, and saying otherwise would just cost you the week.
